Grab the chance to come together as a family while remembering a loved one and help raise funds for a great cause at the St Margaret's Hospice Colour Run Remix.

On Saturday, 20 May, families from all over Somerset will enjoy a fun-filled day at Taunton Racecourse, where they will be drenched in colourful powder as they walk, run or skip their way to the finish line. This year's event is sponsored by Mogers Drewett.

The event is being held to support St Margaret's Hospice in raising funds to support more families in Somerset facing life-limiting illnesses. One family that will be taking part is Elaine and Stuart Thorne, together with their granddaughters, Mollie and Mia. The family will remember their beloved daughter Kayleigh, who received care from St Margaret's Hospice before passing away in August 2021.

St Margaret's Hospice supported Kayleigh at home, enabling her to stay in comfortable surroundings and make precious memories with her family. When Kayleigh's condition deteriorated, she was admitted to the hospice's In-patient Unit to spend her last few weeks with her loved ones. Her family was able to stay with her in the hospice's Sunflower Suite in the two weeks leading up to her death, providing Elaine with invaluable support during her daughter's final days.

"Even now I just can't believe that I am never going to see Kayleigh again," Elaine said. "I'm trying to cope with my grief and help Mia and Mollie with theirs. Some days are easy, and some days are hard, it's a rollercoaster. Since Kayleigh died, I've been speaking to St Margaret's Bereavement Team on a regular basis which has really helped me, and me, Stuart, and Mia had some family sessions together too which were really helpful."

St Margaret's hospice is dedicated to providing care and support to patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families. To make the event more meaningful, each participant is asked to try and raise £50 in sponsorship, which could pay for a family session with a specialist counsellor at St Margaret's, where families can talk about their feelings before and after bereavement.
