The woman who died following an incident at Collett Park pond in Shepton Mallet in January has been named as an inquest into her death has been opened.

On April 29, the senior coroner for Somerset Tony Williams opened an inquest into the death of Betty Margaret Bower, of Kyte Road, Shepton Mallet, following the incident in January.

He noted that Betty Bower was 96 years old when she was confirmed dead on January 25 2020 at Yeovil District Hospital.

Cause of death was recorded as "Unascertained" but there was evidence that the death was not being considered suspicious.

Mr Williams adjourned the inquest hearing for further statements and reports to be obtained, with the date yet to be confirmed.
