The Happy Landings Animal Shelter in Pylle is making changes to its operation to keep it sustainable following the coronavirus crisis.

The charity is making changes to its administrative team in a bid to make sure it can look after the animals in its care.

At the end of March, the shelter made an urgent appeal for funds to help it continue its work, and now the trustees of the charity are looking to the future to make sure it can continue to operate.

Chair of the trustees, Mark Saunders, told Shepton Mallet Nub News: "Like many other charities, the pandemic has impacted us hugely - we have lost our boarding income and we need to find a way forward.

"Key for us is to preserve our animal care capability, so we are making changes to our administrative team, bringing in new skills and reducing our costs in order to create a more sustainable operation.

"Without these changes we would struggle to support the animals in our care, many of which would be extremely difficult to re-home.

"As a charity we don't have owners and nobody has been sacked. The charity was founded 37 years ago by Annabelle Walter and she is still a trustee."

If anyone is able to support the work of Happy Landings either financially or in any other way, they are asked to contact them via the website here.
