Happy Landings Animal Sanctuary in Pylle, Somerset, marks a significant milestone this year, celebrating 40 years of rescuing and rehabilitating abandoned, abused, and neglected animals.

Since its inception, the sanctuary has provided a haven for over 10,000 animals, with its first rescue being a goose named Pimple.

Annabelle Walters, the founder of Happy Landing said: "It had flown into some overhead wires and was badly injured. I'd had plenty of experience with birds before and over the course of a few days, was able to rehabilitate it so it was well enough to fly away."

This initial act of kindness set the precedent for the sanctuary's mission.

Over the years, Happy Landings has sheltered a diverse range of animals, including chinchillas, horses, dogs, rabbits, and cats. "If it's furry or feathered and in need - and if we have capacity - then we will help. Animals offer great therapy, comfort and companionship to mankind, they deserve our help," Annabelle said.

In this landmark year, the sanctuary is focusing on a fundraising campaign to secure £40,000. This sum is crucial for covering costs like vets bills, shelter, heating, food, and specialist care for the animals. "Our biggest obstacle has always been financial stability. If it wasn't for the generosity of people who feel like I do, we'd never have lasted 40 years. Like other small local charities, we struggle to continually raise enough to feel safe - it would be incredible to achieve that."

Happy Landings relies solely on the support of the public, and this year, they are seeking one-off donations, volunteers for fundraising events, and corporate partnerships. These contributions will enable the sanctuary to continue its vital work in rescuing and caring for animals in need, both now and in the future.

For those who wish to contribute to Happy Landings Animal Sanctuary, donations can be made at happy-landings.org.uk/donate. Individuals and businesses interested in hosting a fundraiser or forming a corporate partnership can email [email protected].
