Fusion Lifestyle collapses into Administration

Fusion Lifestyle has collapsed into Administration, throwing the future of leisure centres in Wells, Shepton Mallet, Street and Glastonbury into fresh uncertainty.
The charity, which runs Wells Leisure Centre, Shepton Mallet Lido, Strode Swimming Pool in Street and Tor Sport and Leisure in Glastonbury, entered Administration on Wednesday, 1 April 2026. Nadeem Sweiss and Adam Stephens of S&W Partners LLP have been appointed as Joint Administrators.
Despite the dramatic move, Fusion is insisting it is "business as usual" for now. The operator said one of the advantages of Administration is that it allows the charity "to continue trading" while the Joint Administrators work to secure a new operator for the sites.
In a statement, Fusion said it had worked with local authorities to put a transition period in place "to avoid disruption to the public". It added that "most leisure centres will continue to operate", with key services staying open while talks continue over who will take them on next.
Fusion says memberships remain active, classes and swimming lessons are continuing, prepaid bookings will be honoured and new bookings can still be made as normal. Staff are also expected to remain in place, with day-to-day management staying with Fusion teams while the Joint Administrators oversee the charity.
Fusion said it had been hit by "sustained financial pressures due to rising operational costs, reduced government funding, and post-pandemic recovery challenges".
The charity said it had made "significant attempts" to secure fresh funding, but those efforts were unsuccessful. Administrators have now been brought in with the aim of finding a replacement operator over the coming months.
Fusion said support is being focused on those affected by the immediate changes and insisted it is committed to a smooth transition.
