Mendip District Council, in partnership with Job Centre Plus, has organised a free Health and Mind Matters event in Shepton Mallet.

The event will be held on World Mental Health Day on October 10, at the Shape Mendip site in Shepton Mallet.

The event is open to both the public and those working at the Shape Mendip site with a dual aim of supporting the community but also promoting wellbeing in the workplace.

The purpose of the event is to bring together organisations that can offer direct support to the public but also promote self-help, active lifestyles, healthy eating, wellbeing and hobby groups.

It aims to be as interactive as possible with live demonstrations, displays, information, a mindfulness area and a physical activity corner with boccia and kurling. There will also be live music from Uke-A-Lady.

Heather Shearer, portfolio holder for community health, said: ''There are so many people, charities and community groups doing so much to keep us healthy, and we want to do our bit to promote the good work they do.

"Physical illness and mental health issues can affect all of us, they don't discriminate. Come along on to this event and see how much help there is at hand."

Residents and Shape Mendip staff are welcome to attend a quiet hour between 11am and noon in the Council Chamber, followed by the health and wellbeing event from noon to 2pm.

There will be a prize draw to win a healthy eating hamper and Craft4Crafters Show tickets. Refreshments will also be available on the day.
