Fire crews from Shepton Mallet and Wells were called to a fire in a grain dryer near Stratton-on-the-Fosse at 2.03pm on Tuesday (August 2).

On arrival crews confirmed that approximately 25 tonnes of grain was being emptied onto a tractor and trailor, under fire service supervision. This then allowed crews to work with one hose reel jet, one triple extension ladder and one thermal imaging camera to ensure any hot spots were cooled down to prevent any further fire spread.

Crews got the blaze under control, although on Thursday morning the incident was still classed as "ongoing".

The cause of the fire was accidental self heating of the grain.
