Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service have said they have informed the police after suspecting that the fire at Oakhill Garage last night (May 11) was started deliberately.

Just after 9.45pm, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call from a member of the public reporting a car on fire at the garage in Bath Road.

One fire appliance from Shepton Mallet was immediately mobilised by Fire Control. Due to further call, a second appliance from Shepton Mallet was also mobilised.

On arrival, the Incident Commander confirmed that three cars were well alight and got crews to work to tackle the fire using a hose reel jet and compressed air foam.

A service spokesperson said: "The fire ended up involving five cars and was thought to have been started deliberately so police were informed."
