Shepton Mallet is set to be buzzing with events this weeked, with something for everyone to enjoy.

From car enthusiasts to toy collectors, and from circus-goers to music lovers, there are plenty of exciting events taking place.

On Friday, May 12th, music lovers can head to The Art Bank Cafe to catch a live performance by Kangaroo Moon. The psychedelic folk fusion ensemble formed in 1988 and brings together a variety of musical influences, from world and folk to rock and dance. The event takes place from 7 pm to 11 pm.

AutoFest UK will be taking place on Saturday, May 13th at the Bath & West Showground. The event is the only modified car show in the UK with its own amateur drift display and is expected to attract over 8,000 visitors. This year, Autofest UK will also be supporting Dorset & Devon Air Ambulance and Cancer Research UK. Attendees can enjoy a live drifting display, drift passenger rides, indoor show and shine hall, trade stands, and car displays. Tickets are priced at £20 per person, with free entry for children aged 12 and under.

On Sunday, May 14th, toy enthusiasts can head to the Toy & Train Collectors Fair at the Showground. With over 300 stalls, the event is one of the biggest of its kind in the UK and offers something for collectors of all types. Visitors can browse stalls selling Dinky, Corgi, Comics, Minichamps, Hornby, Bassett Lowke, Meccano, Spot-On, Sci-Fi, Marklin, Matchbox, Scalextric, EFE, Lledo, Action man, dolls, and teddies. Admission starts at £4 per person.

For those looking for a unique and immersive experience, The Miraculous is not to be missed. The event takes place from May 12th to 14th at The Bullzini Circus Yard in Evercreech and promises to be more than just a circus show. The event features international world-class talent, including high-wire performers, aerialists, contortionists, dancers, and poets. Visitors can enjoy a heartfelt narrative and puppets, all in a transformational immersive circus experience suitable for kids, adults, and families.

Looking for an adventure this weekend? Why not take part in The Runaway Train, a trail race that celebrates the opening of the Windsor Hill railway path? Taking place on Sunday 14th May 2023, this exciting event features both an 8½ mile and a 3-mile race, which promise to be super scenic and take in the stunning local surroundings.

The race routes feature a range of terrain, including woods, valleys, distant hills, dark tunnels and high viaducts. The finish line is in the heart of Shepton Mallet, where everyone will come together in the market place for a lunch-time boxty feast.

While the race is primarily aimed at runners, walkers and families are welcome to participate in the event as well. Early starters can enjoy the full runner's route, while those looking for a shorter option can take on the route to Ham Woods and back.

If you're interested in participating in The Runaway Train, be sure to register in advance for race entry and food sales.
