There will be a by-election on Wednesday September 8 to elect a town councillor for the Shepton Mallet East Ward.

The notice of election was published on Mendip District Council's website on August 3 here:

If you would like to stand in the by-election, ensure you hand your completed nomination papers to the returning officer at Mendip District Council by 4pm on August 11. To book an appointment to deliver your nomination papers, email [email protected].

At the request of Shepton Mallet Town Council, no polling cards will be issued for this election. Postal vote ballot packs will be issued, and these will be sent in the usual way.

The deadline for new postal vote and postal proxy applications, and for changes to existing postal or postal proxy votes, is 5pm on August 23.

And the deadline for receiving new applications to vote by proxy (not postal proxy or emergency proxies) is 5pm on August 31.
