The East Somerset Railway, based in Cranmore, is set to hold the first of three Dementia Friendly Days on Sunday, May 7th. The event is designed to create a welcoming and supportive environment for those living with dementia and their family members and caregivers.

The day will include a train ride through the picturesque Somerset countryside and a variety of activities led by trained dementia-friendly staff. Attendees will also have the opportunity to take part in guided tours of the railway and its exhibits. Booking is essential, with tickets priced at £11 per person.

According to the Alzheimer's Society, there are currently over 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK, which is expected to reach over 1 million by 2025. With such a large number of individuals affected, efforts must be made to create more dementia-friendly environments.

The East Somerset Railway's Dementia Friendly Day is just one example of how organisations are working to support those living with the condition. By offering tailored experiences and support, events like these can help to create a sense of community and inclusion for those affected by dementia.
