A drugged-up driver who was seen swerving all over the A39 near Wells has been banned from the road for five years.

Jack Brownless, 39, was high on cannabis when he crashed into a wall before carrying on towards Green Ore, where police caught up with him around 5.45pm on Monday, 22 August.

Concerned motorists had called 999 after spotting his silver Mercedes B-Class veering dangerously across Bristol Hill.

When officers arrived, they found Brownless slurring and confused, with body-worn video showing him unable to follow simple questions. He tested positive for cannabis and was arrested at the scene.

Inside the car, police found:

  • Several snap bags of white powder
  • A pouch of cannabis
  • Scales covered in drug residue

Brownless, of Hazelbury Brian in Dorset, admitted driving over the drug limit and having ketamine and cannabis.

He was sentenced at Yeovil Magistrates' Court on Tuesday (9 December) to a five-year driving ban, a 26-week prison sentence suspended for two years, 100 hours of unpaid work, and a rehab order.

PC Sam Colebrook said: "It's quite clear we are fortunate this incident did not end in serious injury, or worse."
