A person was taken to hospital on Wednesday morning (8 October) after becoming trapped in a vehicle following a crash near Pilton.

The single‑vehicle collision was reported at around 6.20am on the A361, between Parson's Batch and Stickleball Lane. Traffic was blocked westbound while emergency services responded.

Fire crews from Shepton Mallet and Glastonbury attended the scene and used Edraulic cutting gear to release the casualty. VStrut stabilisation equipment and environmental pads were also used due to a fuel leak.

A fire service spokesperson said: "Fire control received a call reporting a single-vehicle road traffic collision (RTC) with a person trapped in Shepton Mallet this morning. Crews from Shepton Mallet and Glastonbury were mobilised. Crews used Edraulic cutting equipment to release the casualty, and VStrut stabilisation equipment was also used. Environmental pads were also used to stem fuel leaking from the vehicle."

Fire crews left the scene by 8.10am and handed the casualty into the care of the ambulance service.

A South Western Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 06:06hrs on Wednesday 08 October to a road traffic collision in Pilton. We sent one double-crewed land ambulance, and an operations officer to the scene. We conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Yeovil District Hospital."

The road had cleared and traffic had returned to normal by 9am.
