Domestic Property Fire at Stone Lane, East Pennard near Shepton Mallet

Date: 26.01.2019Time: 03:59Location: Stone Lane, East Pennard near Shepton MalletDevon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received reports of a fire in a boiler room that had spread to the roof.

Fire control immediately mobilised one fire appliance from Glastonbury, two from Shepton Mallet and an Operational Assurance officer. Due to further information received fire control also decided to mobilise the aerial ladder platform from Yeovil.

On arrival crews confirmed that the roof was well alight so made pumps five. These additional appliances were sent from Street and Castle Cary.

Crews got to work extinguishing the fire using two breathing apparatus wearers, one hose reel jet, one main jet and two short extension ladders. In addition, to supplement on scene water supply, crews requested a water carrier that was sent from Yeovil.

At 05:42hrs breathing apparatus was discontinued and crews were cutting away and damping down any remaining hotspots. Crews had one thermal imaging camera and two hose reel jets in use.

Final Details - this was a fire in a kitchen roof of a two storey farmhouse measuring 8m x 8m. The roof was severely damaged by fire. The fire was extinguished using two breathing apparatus wearers, two hose reel jets, one main jet, one safety jet, two short extension ladders, one thermal imaging camera and small tools. The cause of the fire was believed to be accidental.
