DofE Walk with the Mendip School

By Carol Authers 3rd Oct 2023

On a rather grey but surprisingly dry day, The Mendip School took on the latest DofE partnership jaunt with Somerset DofE and Somerset Freemasons.

This time along the East Mendip Way from Wells Cathedral to Kilver Court in Shepton Mallet, with a slight diversion off of the route, to see the newly opened Windsor Tunnel too.

A great 7-mile walk, with seven students from The Mendip School, all doing their DofE training walk, and having the opportunity to talk to the DofE team and Freemasons – both of whom work across the county supporting young people start their DofE journey, through the Somerset Bursary Fund.

The bursary fund is in place, to ensure that any disadvantaged young person can access the award, ensuring that the award is open to all young people between the ages of 14-25 and that financial barriers alongside physical and mental health blocks are removed.

Starting with the stunning Cathedral backdrop and ending with food provided by The Greenfield Café, it was a great day for all involved, some DofE participants also received bronze and silver certificates and badges, where they recently won their award.
