Councillor calls on NASS festival to love the countryside and leave no trace

Last weekend thousands of young people descended on the Bath and West Showground for the NASS festival of music, street art, skate and BMX.
While previous festivals have caused traffic chaos on the roads, organisers took measures to improve the situation, and this year, there was minimal traffic disruption, to the joy of local residents. And apart from some people taking to Facebook to vent about the volume of the music, the general consensus seems to have been that the organisation was much improved.
But now that the revellers have left, Evercreech councillor, and Deputy Leader of Mendip District Councillor Barry O'Leary has been shocked at the amount of litter left not only on site, but also in the surrounding area, and is calling on NASS to commit to "leave no trace".
Cllr O'Leary said: "One of the council's priorities is to have a cleaner Mendip. We engaged a contractor specifically clearing hedgerows in around this area, and I would like a reassurance that NASS will commit to clearing the area, so that the cleaning costs don't land with the council again – and therefore, ultimately, the taxpayer."
A spokesperson for NASS ha confirmed that litterpicking crews are currently on site and will also be litterpicking in the local area. He went on to say that the work is expected to be completed this week.
