Could you become a retained firefighter?

Local News by Emma Dance 16th Aug 2022

It has been a busy few weeks for firefighters.

Perhaps you have seen the after effects from the fires at Barrendown and Binegar.

In the last seven days alone the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service has dealt with more than 500 incidents, more than 200 of them fires.

Would you like to join these teams of firefighters that do such an amazing job protecting our communities?

Shepton Mallet Fire Station is holding a recruitment day on Saturday, September 3.

During the day, there will be the opportunity to:

- find out more about becoming an on-call firefighter

- try out some of the equipment used in our practical assessments - see a demonstration of how we rescue people involved in road traffic collisions.

Crews from Shepton Mallet and Wells Fire Stations will be there to answer any questions about what it's like to be an on-call firefighter.

The event takes place from 10am to 4pm.
