The police have come up with a plan to battle bad behaviour and vandalism at Shepton Skate Park.
The facility, which was built six years ago, has recently been subjected to littering, graffiti, and even potential arson attempts, prompting intervention from the local police and town council.
In response to concerns raised by local residents, the police have laid out a strategy to combat the ongoing issues.
"Our goal is to restore and maintain the safety and cleanliness of Shepton Skate Park for all users to enjoy," a spokesperson said. "We consider this place to be a valuable resource for the community, and we are committed to preserving it."
Police officers will be engaging in discussions with skaters and park-goers, encouraging them to use the bins provided for litter, as well as increasing patrols around the park with the hope of discouraging anti-social behaviour.
"We want to ensure the park remains a secure space for everyone. Regular patrols will be carried out to deter any inappropriate activities and ensure that all park-goers feel safe while they enjoy their time at the skate park," the spokesperson added.
In addition to police efforts, Shepton Town Council is taking measures to engage park users in a discussion about the graffiti-covered shelters.
The spokesperson further suggested that these dialogues could explore creative solutions to the graffiti issue, including mural painting activities.
"We're hopeful that, together, we can reinstate the skate park as a beacon of community spirit and healthy recreation," he said.
