Expect delays, disruption and general traffic chaos around Shepton Mallet for the next few weeks.

The A37 between The Highwayman pub and the roundabout which joins the A371 will be closed to all northbound traffic from May 16 to June 1 while Bristol Water install a new water main.

The signed diversion will take traffic via Glastonbury – a detour of 21.4km and around 25 minutes extra journey time.

Diversions must use roads akin to those closed, but there are alternative routes using smaller roads – however, these are not necessarily designed to take the same volume of traffic and if large vehicles decide to travel down narrow lanes there could well be problems.

The Bath and West Show begins on June 2, so although there won't be extra traffic from the public, many traders may find the journey taking longer than they expected.
