Shepton Mallet tractor enthusiast’s podcast becomes surprise hit

By Guest 17th Jan 2025

A Shepton Mallet tractor enthusiast and his fiancé have turned their passion for agriculture into a hit podcast series that's gaining celebrity attention.

Tobias Daniels, 37, and Heather Bryson launched the tongue-in-cheek podcast "Fun with Tractors" last autumn, building on the popularity of their YouTube channel, "Father & Son Tractors," which showcases vintage tractor restorations.

The couple's light-hearted approach to agricultural topics has struck a chord with fans, attracting notable guests, including stars from Clarkson's Farm and Detectorists.

Tobias said the idea for the podcast came about when bad weather halted work on their latest restoration project. "Storm after storm rolled in, the area became flooded, and we couldn't film outside," he explained. "That's when we decided to create a sofa-based podcast series to keep things moving – and it's taken off in ways we never expected."

Their pilot episode focused on the iconic Ferguson TE20 range and featured a mix of sofa chats and tractor footage. It quickly gained traction, inspiring the pair to expand the series. Each 15-minute episode now combines cosy discussions with in-depth looks at tractors, from vintage models like the Fordson Major to cutting-edge machines like the Case IH Luxxum 120.

The couple's mini dachshund, Teddy, has become an unexpected star of the show, adding charm to the sofa segments. "Teddy's mischief has definitely helped win over some viewers," Heather joked.

One of the podcast's biggest milestones was securing an episode with Bendor Grosvenor, best known for his work on BBC's Fake or Fortune. The art historian joined the show to discuss his farm in the Scottish Highlands and his love of vintage John Deere tractors.

The series has also highlighted innovation in agriculture. Farmer Paul Chant featured on a recent episode to discuss his DIY Hydrogen Assist engine for diesel tractors.

Tobias and Heather have received overwhelming support from the farming community, with companies such as T H White Agriculture and The Ford and Fordson Association lending their backing. Each podcast also shines a spotlight on the Farming Community Network, a charity offering support to rural workers.

"We've been blown away by the response," Tobias said. "It's incredible to see how many people share our passion for tractors and farming."

The pair's YouTube channel continues to showcase their restoration projects, including their current work on an early Fordson Major, dubbed the "Franken Major," which they're restoring for Tourette's Action.

New episodes of Fun with Tractors are available on their YouTube channel, with more celebrity guests lined up for 2024.
