A burst water main left homes in Evercreech without water for more than 12 hours.
The supply to many homes in the village started to dwindle at around 8pm last night (Sunday, July 31) and at 9.40pm Bristol Water confirmed that they were making urgent repairs.
However, it seems that there was no easy fix, and according to Bristol Water's website "The affected pipework is in a challenging location, beneath a field with overgrown foliage and a nearby gas main. This means our crew needs to work very carefully."
Water supplies were delivered to vulnerable customers and attempts were made to redirect water to supply the affected homes.
At 6.20am it was confirmed that repairs were complete. The website said: "Repairs to our large water pipe are complete and we're now preparing to recharge the main to distribute supplies back throughout the network in Evercreech and the surrounding areas. It means we need to allow time for the main to refill with water and to re-pressurise. This process can take a couple of hours and then we'll need to flush water through the network carefully."
A hub was set up at Acorns Pre-School providing water to affected customers while the service was restored.
Some residents reported that they were once gain able to use taps shortly before 9.30am this morning (Monday, August 1), while the water was taking longer to reach other areas of the village.
Bristol Water said: "We've replenished alternative water supplies at our hub which is supporting any customer affected by the burst water main in Evercreech.
"Please call into Acorns Pre-School in Evercreech, BA4 6EH, to collect the supplies you need. Do bring your own containers to the site to fill up with water. We also have bottled water available. We're delivering bottled water direct to vulnerable customers.
"Customers will start to see water returning to their taps, but as it's flowing through a large area it will take time to get back to normal for everyone. Low pressure and discoloured water is also expected as supplies are gradually fully restored."
Evercreech councillor Barro O'Leary said; "I appreciate it will take a water board sometime to get a tanker to the village, and I'm glad they have a list of vulnerable people but I would appeal to anybody who is in a vulnerable situation after this incident to get in tough with Bristol Water and let them know."
