Children from Bowlish Infant School had fun creating a collage for Field House care home

Bowlish Infant School have created a special collage for the residents of Field House care home in Shepton Mallet.

Children wanted to create a picture that would make the residents "feel happy and loved" and "remind them of some of things they enjoy".

Before staring work on their collage Bowlish Infant School's Arts Ambassadors Reggie, Rosa and Georgia held a meeting with Rita and Alma from Field House care home. Students were very excited to learn that Alma was about to turn 101! During the zoom meeting they talked about their favourite plants and flowers and which colours they liked as well as sharing information about things they'd like to see in the picture.

Students then had the opportunity to work with professional printmaker Jasmine Collings to create an incredible collage featuring birds, wildlife, a pond, fish and a swing.

Earlier this month, children visited Field House care home to present their collage. The event was especially poignant as this is the first event Field House has held inside since lockdown.

The children had been working hard in choir classes after school with Mrs Wilson to prepare some songs and music especially for the event. The repertoire included You are my Sunshine, Happiness is Something if You Give it Away, and Let's go Fly a Kite.

There was much singing along, and an incredible array of cakes and cream teas for all to share.

The picture, created by 110 students, will now be hung in the dining room at Field House Care Home for all to enjoy!

This is part of a wide range of projects and workshops being run by Make the Sunshine in partnership with six local school – Bowlish Infant School, St Paul's CofE VC Junior School, St Aldhelm's, The Federation of Croscombe and Stoke St Michael and Shepton Mallet Infants School.

374 Ways to Change the World has been generously supported by Shepton Mallet Town Council, Mendip Council, Somerset Community Foundation, Wells Festival of Literature and Take Art Barn Fund.
