Avon & Somerset Police are launching a new initiative that will celebrate the contribution people with special educational needs and disability (SEND) can make to policing in Somerset.

A spokesman for the police said, "Are you a young person with SEND who could be the difference for your community?

"We value the way you see the world. We know how important it is to represent the communities we serve and we see individuality as a strength. So we want everyone who works for us or who is thinking about working for us to value the difference they can make too.

"We're offering an exciting one-year traineeship for adults aged 18-25 with SEND who are based in Somerset, available from September 2022. It's the first time we're offering an opportunity of this kind and it's hoped we will be able to build on its success, to expand to more areas in the future.

"People are often surprised by the variety of roles we have at Avon and Somerset and we want to provide a chance for you to sample as many of them as possible.

The traineeship could see you get experience in departments including Operational Support (with some of our four-legged officers ), investigations , our Roads Policing Unit and our neighbourhood teams, among others.

If you are a young person with SEND looking for a new adventure and a way to find a fulfilling career, find out more and express your interest here: http://ow.ly/VhH350IPGkT
