Last year, Avon and Somerset say they seized 12,500 cannabis plants from illegal cannabis farms across the police force's district.

The force say that not only are properties used to grow cannabis often run by organised crime gangs, which in turn can fuel and fund other crime, but the farms are also a huge fire risk.

Back in April, police over in Wells uncovered a large cannabis factory in the city.

Acting on concerns raised by members of the public, officers attended an address in Wells High Street and found over 200 suspected cannabis plants and various items of equipment associated with the illegal cultivation of the drug.

Today the Avon and Somerset force urged the public to continue to help them if they suspect any cannabis farms in their area.

You can report a suspected cannabis farm by calling 0800 555 111.
