The partner of the victim of an attack in Cowl Street, Shepton Mallet, last year has appealed for new witnesses come forward after the police filed the case.

The couple, who have both asked not to be named, have pleaded for any new evidence to be given to the police, following the attack in August 2019.

Three arrests were made in relation to the incident, but Avon and Somerset Police have confirmed that the case has been filed for now.

Speaking to Shepton Mallet Nub News, the victim's partner said: "My partner got severely attacked in the end of August last year to the point where he had to be put into hospital and had to have surgery for four hours to correct his arm, plus stitching in his face too.

"He is a victim of a bottle crime attack but we had a phone call from the detective this week discussing how we were coping and then she explained that there wasn't enough evidence and that they couldn't take it any further but it would be filed.

"I was completely furious and absolutely gutted, we both are. My partner didn't deserve this.

"As anyone that knows him or has spoken to him knows, he is one of the most kindest, caring and loving people you could ever meet. He would do anything for anyone.

"He was left for dead in Shepton Mallet at 5.55am on August 29 2019 - this has left him mentally and physically different, he will never be the same person after this and has to have ongoing physiotherapy.

"If anyone who saw the attack has not come forward yet, please get in contact with the police, or if anyone has any new evidence, please let the police know."

A spokesperson for the police said: "We carried out a full investigation of this assault, making three arrests as part of our enquiries.

"Unfortunately the evidence did not meet the charging threshold and the case has now been filed pending new evidence.

"Should any new witnesses come forward, or new evidence be presented, the case will be reopened."
