Anti‑social behaviour in Shepton Mallet: 125 incidents reported in the last year

Anti‑social behaviour in Shepton Mallet has accounted for more than one in ten incidents over the past year, new data shows — prompting police to call on the public to keep sharing their concerns.
Figures released by Avon and Somerset Police reveal that 125 incidents were reported in the town in the 12 months leading up to June, making up 11.5% of all incidents. This includes vandalism, noise disturbances and instances of intimidating or threatening behaviour — all of which can have a significant impact on residents' quality of life and sense of safety.
Over the past three years, that total climbs to 373 incidents, making up 12.9% of all reports across the area. The figures underline the ongoing challenge faced by officers working to balance enforcement with prevention.
A police spokesperson said: "We understand the effect anti‑social behaviour can have on people's everyday lives, and we're committed to making Shepton Mallet a safer, more welcoming place for everyone. It's a priority for us, and we continue to work closely with local communities, businesses and partner organisations to reduce its long‑term impact.
"The public play a vital role too — by reporting incidents when they occur, you help us build a clearer picture of where and when problems arise, and that allows us to focus resources where they're needed most."
Police have reassured residents that they remain active in tackling anti‑social behaviour across the town, working in partnership with Somerset Council and other agencies to find long‑term solutions.
