Yorkshire shepherdess and star of Channel 5's Our Yorkshire Farm, Amanda Owen, delighted a sell out audience, of around 400, in the Wessex Pavilion at the Bath and West Showground near Shepton Mallet last night (November 20).

Shepherdess, wife and mother of nine, Amanda gave an informative and highly amusing potted history of her life from her early years as a teenage shepherdess on Salisbury Plain to her present life with husband Clive, and their large family at their beloved Ravenseat, a 2,000-acre remote farm in Swaledale.

She talked about the highs and lows of living in such a remote area, from the elder children having a two hour bus ride each way to school and the extreme winter weather to the 16,000 walkers who pass through the farm on the famous Coast to Coast walk and the Channel 5 film crews documenting life on the farm throughout the seasons.

After a break for food and drink she held a lively and amusing Question and Answer session to finish the evening.

MC for the event, Rupert Cox, CEO of the Royal Bath and West Society, proved to be an excellent host with his own brand of humour.
