A fundarising evening for Ukraine will be taking place in Cheddar on Saturday (July 23).
Speaking at the event will be former army medic Steve Brooks, who spent six weeks in Ukraine earlier this year. Steve, from Shepton Mallet, has been sharing his experiences at a series of fundraising events, and this is the last chance to hear him before he returns to the country for five months to support a voluntary field hospital with training and caring for wounded soldiers rescued from the frontlines.
There will also be a Ukrainian supper and music from Ukrainian artists including Ukrainian Pop Star, Tonya Matvienko who is one of the leading performers in Ukraine and regularly fills stadiums. She is currently living in Somerset and is offering her services to support her homeland.
Also performing will be Luis Martelo, a very talented trumpeter who was awarded bronze in the Global Music Awards and young star, Roman. Roman is nine years old and came from Kharkiv to live in Somerset with his family. He is a talented ballet dancer and musician who attended a specialist dance school when he was living in Ukraine.
Local businesses have donated some fabulous prizes for an auction and raffle on the night.
The event takes place at the Cheddar Community Pavilion, Sharpham Road, Cheddar, and begins at 7pm.
Tickets still available online from somersetaidforukraine.org or by contacting 07786 360128.
