The A361 through Pilton is closed this afternoon (March 1) for police investigation work to take place.

The road is shut between Higher Westholme Road and Parson's Batch, in Pilton, and follows reports earlier on this afternoon of a car chase through Shepton Mallet.

According to reports, two police cars were pursuing another vehicle at high speed past the Tesco roundabout.

The road is expected to be closed for the rest of the afternoon, and it is causing traffic delays in the area.

According to satellite traffic cameras, traffic is queuing back to the B3136 turn off for Shepton Mallet in one direction, and to the junction with Higher Westholme Road at Steanbow in the Glastonbury direction.

Motorists are being advised to find an alternative route.
