An 11-year-old is walking her socks off around Shepton Mallet to help raise hundreds of pounds for the Guide Dogs charity.

Sienna Elliott, who lives near to the town but does a lot of her walking in Shepton Mallet, is aiming to walk 100,000 steps this week as part of the charity's Walk Your Socks Off challenge.

Today she hit the 90,000-step mark and is hoping to raise £250 for the charity - £95 could buy a training school kit for one guide dog trainer who will teach pups the special skills they need as a fully qualified guide dog.

Sienna has helped her totally blind mum Jessica at many fundraising events over the years and knows just how important this service is.

Sienna said: "I love Winnie, my mum's current guide dog, and I know just how lost Mum would be without her.

"I want to help other guide dog partnerships as much as I can. My target is to walk 100,000 steps over my sponsorship week."

Mum Jessica is incredibly proud of her daughter's efforts as she only has £70 to go to hit her target.

Jessica said: "She still has a little way to go to reach her target and she is doing extremely well with her steps already, fitting her walking in around her school work.

"I am really proud of her for taking on this challenge during a difficult time. Guide Dogs relies entirely on the generosity of the public for its vital work and at present we are unable to run any public events.

"Personal challenges, like the Walk Your Socks Off one, are very important to us right now."
