Shauny – The Harvest Gold Survivor
By Tobias Wedgwood 19th May 2026
Among the many vintage tractors that have survived the decades, few carry a story quite as remarkable as Shauny, a beautifully restored 1941 Fordson Standard N that proudly shines once again in its original Harvest Gold orange.
Built during one of the most difficult periods in modern history, Shauny became part of Britain's wartime farming effort during the Second World War. Like many tractors of the era, its bright orange finish was repainted green for wartime service — a practical colour for a nation focused entirely on duty and survival.
And survive it did.
Through the hardship of war and the difficult years of post-war food shortages, Shauny worked tirelessly in the fields, helping farmers produce the food Britain desperately needed. Decades later, this old Fordson still stands as a tribute to the resilience of both machine and farmer alike.
Years of hard work inevitably took their toll, but Shauny's story was far from over. Passionate enthusiasts undertook a complete restoration, carefully rebuilding the entire engine, clutch, gearbox, and braking system. Every component was restored with patience and dedication, breathing new life into the historic tractor.
Once the mechanical work was complete, Shauny was returned to its former glory, once again wearing the classic Harvest Gold paint that made the Fordson Standard N such an iconic sight on Britain's farms.
Originally from Scotland, Shauny now resides in Shepton Mallet with Heather and Tobias Wedgwood as a permanent part of "The Wedgwood Collection," where this magnificent machine continues to preserve an important piece of agricultural history.
Today, Shauny regularly appears at vintage and countryside shows, attracting admiration from enthusiasts young and old. Visitors are drawn not only to the tractor's striking appearance, but also to the incredible story behind it — a story of endurance, restoration, and heritage.
More than eighty years after first entering service, Shauny remains a proud reminder of Britain's farming past and the hardworking machines that helped carry a nation through wartime and beyond.
So, if you see Shauny at a show, take a moment to admire this beautiful old tractor — a true survivor in every sense of the word.
