Castle Cary is set to embrace a new chapter in care for adults with learning disabilities and complex needs with the opening of Weavers Lodge next month.

This modern facility, transitioning from a 17-bed elderly care home, has been reimagined as a six-bedded residential home and a two-bed short-term placement service.

Weavers Lodge consists of six residential homes and a two-bed respite service, each specifically designed to meet the unique needs of its occupants. The emphasis is on providing personalised and effective care within a comprehensive environment that promotes both independence and well-being.

The renovation of the property has been a collaborative effort, led by Hammond Building Contractors and Dolman Building Surveyors, with Homecare Interiors Group responsible for the sophisticated interior design and furnishings.

Together, they have transformed the former elderly care home into a modern, welcoming space equipped with the latest in care technology and home comforts tailored for individuals with complex needs.

The project reached a significant milestone on 12 April when the Chairman, Directors, and Marketing Lead conducted their final walkthrough before the official handover of the keys.

"The team is immensely grateful for the extensive renovation work that has prepared the building to meet the future needs of its residents," said a spokesperson for Weavers Lodge.

Home Manager Nick Rickwood has been instrumental in bringing this vision to life. "The encouragement we've received from the Castle Cary community has been incredible," Rickwood remarked. "From the outset, locals have gone above and beyond to welcome us, showing genuine enthusiasm and support for a project that seeks to uplift the most vulnerable in our community."

From 17 April, Homecare Interiors Group will begin the final stage of furnishing, ensuring that every aspect of the facility is designed to enhance residents' quality of life. The lodge will feature securable kitchenettes to teach life skills, spacious communal areas for social interaction, and customised therapeutic activities aligned with individual care plans.

As the May 2024 opening approaches, excitement within the team and the community continues to grow.

"We are hopeful and excited as we approach our opening. We look forward to welcoming the community to our launch party and showcasing what Weavers Lodge has to offer," added the spokesperson.
