To mark the leap year, this week's Shepton Mallet Parkrun is going to be run in reverse for one time only.

The parkrun takes place every Saturday at 9am in Collett Park in the town, but there will not be another Saturday February 29 for 28 years, so the organisers wanted to do something special.

Therefore, this Saturday the run will start at the finish and finish at the start after three laps, but in reverse.

Starting by the Collett Park pond, runners will head up the right-hand side of the park, around by the play areas, then down the other side to the pond, before heading out along the old railway line.

After staying right, instead of left as usual, they will reach the cone and head back the other way cutting back across the park to the Charlton Road entrance and back to where they started for two more laps.

Parkrun is free to take part in, you just have to register to get a barcode that will be used to track your time.

It prides itself on being a friendly, welcoming event where all abilities are welcome - there are competitive runners, but also people who walk the five kilometre route.
