A Shepton Mallet charity is in the running to receive a donation of money from a West Country-based voucher code website.

The Somerset and Wessex Eating Disorders Association (SWEDA) is in the poll to receive the money due to it being Eating Disorders Awareness Week.

The money is coming from the independent voucher website My Favourite Voucher Codes, which is based in Bath.

In addition to hosting thousands of voucher codes, deals and discounts from some of the biggest retailers in the UK, the company says it is also passionate about helping good causes, which is why it donates 20 per cent of its profits to charity every month.

Since it launched in 2012, My Favourite Voucher Codes has raised more than £60,000 for different charities, supporting everything from well-known national organisations to smaller, local charities.

In terms of deciding which charity benefits, this is done through the site's free monthly poll. Every month, it nominates four different charities who each compete for votes by visitors to the site, and at the end of the month the charity with the most votes wins the donation.

With every purchase made, the company makes a small commission, which is how it ultimately forms its monthly donation - in short, the more codes used, the bigger the donation to the winning charity.

As well as Shepton Mallet's SWEDA, which is is taking part in honour of Eating Disorders Awareness Week that runs until March 7, My Favourite Voucher Codes' line-up for March features charities in honour of International Women's Day and Self Injury Awareness Day, both of which occur this month.

SWEDA is one of the few specialist eating disorder charities in the UK. Working with clients of all ages and genders, SWEDA provides support to those struggling with poor body image, which is closely linked with the majority of eating disorders.

Their therapeutic approach focuses on prevention and recovery, which aims to support and empower clients to live a healthy, fulfilled life.

Also in the poll are Freedom4Girls and Irise International who both aim to tackle period poverty, and Self Injury Support who work with women and girls affected by self injury.

If you would like to support one of these charities, visit the My Favourite Voucher Codes website HERE where you will be able to cast your vote for free.

Select your chosen charity from the list followed by the "Vote" button to confirm. There's no need to make a purchase though the site for your vote to count.

If you would like to nominate a charity to take part in a future poll, you can do so by emailing charities co-ordinator Amy Jackson at [email protected].
